New ‘Buzzin’ Interview w/ @AndrewDavisII

Tell us about you and your movement

My name is Andrew Davis II.  I’m an MC born and raised in Hartford, CT – currently residing in Chicago, IL.  I’m a 2007 grad of Northwestern University, that’s what brought me to Chicago.  I’ve spent the past two years building a real movement behind my music.  The team is strong, man.  Team ADII is represented in Connecticut, New York, Chicago and New Orleans – and definitely growing.  Right now the viral push has been of utmost priority – getting blog exposure everywhere we can.  That’s been going well over the past few months.  We hope to build on that and take it straight to the top.

When did you start to develop your artistry?

I started writing in 2nd grade.  I used to write a lot of poems and short stories as a kid.  I didn’t necessarily look at my poetry as “rap”, but I always made sure it rhymed, you know.  As I got older I got more and more into writing raps.  I used to be really shy with my raps man, (lol).  I started high school at 12, so I was nervous that the older kids wouldn’t feel me.  I started recording and hopping on records at 16.  I also did my first live performance at 17.  It was a talent show at a prep school I attended after I graduated high school – Salisbury School.  I would say that this talent show performance was when I knew that music was my passion…my career.

Who are some of your musical influences?

So one of my earliest musical influences is definitely Prince! (Lol)  Sounds crazy, but my father told me that he used to take headphones, place them on my mother’s stomach while she was pregnant with me, and play the Purple Rain album for me.  As a kid, my father kept a pretty diverse collection of music that had strong influence on me; everything from Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and James Brown to jazz artists like Joe Sample, George Howard, and Stanley Clarke.  I was even influenced by artists like Average White band, The Talking Heads, the Ohio Players…man I can go on for days.  The point, I guess, is that I have an old soul when it comes to music.  My influences have been very diverse.

What current projects are you working on?

I’m wrapping up my debut EP which will be entitled “My Dream” and it is scheduled for release in mid-April.  This is essentially the closest thing to my first album – it’s my baby.  We’re promoting the single off the EP which is also entitled “My Dream” and the video for that drops February 21st (my other baby). My team and I are also working on a “My Dream” clothing collection with NY and Chicago based clothing company Dynastee Clothing Co.  Be on the lookout for that Fall of this year.

How are you planning to ‘Get Your Buzz Up’?

The most important ingredient of our plan is GOOD music that myself and my team all believe in.  There’s no substitute for good, quality product.  With the My Dream EP, the singles, and videos the next ingredient is aggressive marketing.  My team works hard to think creatively outside the box – what AREN’T other artists doing and how can we market our music in a unique way that makes our movement stand out?  It’s time to shake up the world man, and you can’t do that by doing what everyone else is doing.  We have dope product, creative minds at work on the marketing, and the money to back up every statement we make.  We out here.

Where can we find you online?

My fans can get the most frequent and up-to-date news on me and my movement via my fan page (www.facebook.com/AndrewDavisII) and my twitter page (@AndrewDavisII).  My website www.AndrewDavisII.com will be launching soon as well.

Any shout outs or Plugs?

Shout outs to my family, all my fans and followers.  Big shouts to #TeamADII, man 2011 is going to be one for the books.  Be sure to look for and request my single “My Dream” – video drops February 21st.  Finally, be on the lookout for my debut EP – “My Dream” this April.

Thanks.  – ADII
